Sheldon Spotted Elk Maheo'o Ohtamehn'stse (Northern Cheyenne) is a direct descendant of Ho'weche who was orphaned at the Sand Creek Massacre. Sheldon currently works for a national foundation dedicated to safely reducing the amount of children in foster care and ultimately eliminating the need for the child welfare system. He also serves as a judge for a tribal court of appeals. He has taught adjunct courses and has provided guest lectures at law schools throughout the country. He was recognized as an Obama Foundation USA Leader in the 2024-25 cohort that connects emerging leaders across the country. He is a graduate of University of New Mexico School of Law. He and his wife, Tleena live in Denver and their six children live in Colorado and Washington (S'Klallam lands).
